Drop Riffle Sluice / Angus MacKirk
I have two drop riffle sluices, a Angus MacKirk and a Robinson's Brothers drop riffle sluice. They work great for capturing the larger gold flakes, but the flour and fine gold I find in my test pans are not being caught in either of my sluices. I run the sluices with proper water flow and angled correctly and run classified material to 1/4".

Refill with water and continue. Slightly more weight, use another 5 gal bucket (or a 2.5) as a bucket classifier. Put it in the 5 gal collecting tailings and leave the 5 gal full of water. Few shovels then spin the classifier backnforth and up/down and dump tailings. When it doesn't set down quite right, dump into classifier and refill with water.
Home made Mackirk Sluice Project
The dimensions are 8"x36"x3-1/2" the riffles are 1/2"x2" set 2"apart. The small drop riffles in the deck and the one in the top of the wedge riffle are 1/8"x1/8". This is all by similar design of the Mackirk riffle. The only thing different is the distance between riffles. I think Mackirk's are actually back to back.

But I only did after asking because all of his land was posted. And he hated doing it. The owner has no issue with power equipment. Just want the holes filled. At least the ones on the brook edge. Rumor from Angus is that there is a 4 inch highbanker or dredge coming this spring. I am hoping to get part of that unit.
